23 May Minister Of Health Visits Ifanadiana District
A close and collaborative partnership between Madagascar’s Ministry of Health (MoH) and PIVOT has been essential to advancements in strengthening the public health system in Ifanadiana District. The continued growth of that partnership was demonstrated this April when the nation’s Minister of Public Health, Mamy Lalatiana Andriamanarivo, made his first official visit to Ifanadiana District to witness the progress that has been made to date. He and his senior staff, along with a number of other national and regional Ministry officials, gathered on April 10, 2017 to tour facilities and attend several celebratory inaugurations.
To kick off the day of celebrations, Minister Andriamanarivo and PIVOT co-founder Jim Herrnstein were both present to deliver remarks in honor of the opening of a new maternity ward at Kelilalina health center. The newly-constructed facility marks a significant step toward increasing access to quality care for expectant mothers in the district. Since PIVOT’s arrival in 2014, the delivery rate at this health center has more than doubled, and it is anticipated that deliveries will continue increasing with the facility’s additional 1800 square feet of space dedicated to maternal and child health. The event, attended by hundreds, included a ribbon-cutting ceremony as well as song and dance presentations by local performance groups.
Following the maternity ward’s inauguration and banquet reception, Ministry officials and PIVOT leadership and staff visited the Ranomafana Health Center and the Ifanadiana District Hospital’s laboratory to tour recent infrastructure improvements, including newly purchased equipment.
The day’s festivities received television coverage by national broadcasting networks (see video below).
