30 Sep Introducing our new Engagement Director
We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Barbara Vololonarivelo to our Executive Leadership Team as the head of our Engagement Department, overseeing partnerships, development, and communications.
As a Malagasy physician, public health researcher, and a mother of two, Barbara’s unique combination of technical knowledge and practical experience position her to be an outstanding advocate for the communities Pivot serves. A Young African Leadership Initiative alumni with a decade of experience across the health and education sectors, Barbara brings a wealth of strong professional experience, from leading innovative research on maternal depression in Madagascar, to implementing progressive interdisciplinary teaching methods, to collaborating with US-based organizations as a government liaison, and co-founding a community health project. Barbara speaks three languages, holds a medical degree from the University of Antananarivo and a Masters of Specialization in Public Health Services from the Université Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium, and has published in the Lancet Maternal Health Series as well as written strategic documents for the National Malaria Control Program and the Global Fund.
Especially in view of our regional expansion, Barbara’s expertise in the focus areas of community health and maternal and reproductive health will provide key support during this period of major growth. She welcomes the opportunity to bring innovation and transformation to her own country’s healthcare system through building Pivot partnerships, financial and programmatic, and expanding communications to advance our national objectives.
Barbara’s hire completes the evolution of our engagement team to be Madagascar-based so that those representing our work externally are the same people leading it internally. With gratitude to the many who have helped to build the foundation of our Engagement work over the last decade, we look forward to all that having it led from Madagascar will bring to our future. Please join us in welcoming Barbara to the Pivot family! (And stay tuned for the chance to meet her during our next Voices From the Field virtual panel in the new year.)
