PIVOT Welcomes New Staff

In the past several months, PIVOT welcomed six new faces to the team. In our efforts to strengthen and expand our operations in both Madagascar and the U.S., we are excited to have them join the staff. Each brings a breadth of experience and a deep passion for global health care. We look forward to the upcoming year and are excited for the new and improved ideas and practices that everyone will contribute. Read more to meet our newest team members.

enews_hassanHassan Bouziane joined PIVOT in February as Madagascar-based Director of Operations. In his new role, Hassan oversees PIVOT’s fast-growing site operations programs including logistics (construction), human resources, and finance. Hassan brings over ten years of humanitarian and development management experience in the field of public health with organizations such as Oxfam, Handicap International, and the French Red Cross. He has extensive knowledge of Madagascar, having lived in the country for the past six years, and has a deep passion for global health. Hassan holds a technical university diploma in finance and training across numerous operations areas including humanitarian logistics, computers, telecommunications, electrical control systems, and construction.

enews_anithaAnita Kangana joined PIVOT in June as Hospital Nurse Supervisor, responsible for ensuring the quality of nursing care and hygiene in all departments at the district hospital, and for overall training, organization and scheduling of nursing staff. Anita will serve as liaison between the hospital administration, Ministry of Health, PIVOT nurses, medical, and logistics staff, and will identifying nursing needs, challenges and solutions. She previously served in a variety of nursing and nursing supervising positions for Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in Madagascar, Niger, and Mauritania. Anita brings specialized experience in nutrition, management of primary health care, management of cholera epidemic, care quality supervision, human resource management and vaccinations.  She holds a diploma as a Registered Nurse of the State, A1 level, from the Higher Institute of Medical Techniques, Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo.

Charles Mead
 joined PIVOT in March as a Healthcare Informatics Specialist volunteer. With over 35 years of professional experience in healthcare and healthcare informatics, Charlie brings technical understanding of both commercial and government standards-aware software development to the PIVOT team. He holds a Masters Degree in Computer Science and an MD from the Washington University School of Medicine, and most recently served as Senior Technical Advisor to CEO and VP of Strategy at Vidal, a leading healthcare company based in Paris, France. Charlie’s joining our team in Ranomafana marks his return to primary care; his role will involve serving as a mentor to Malagasy clinicians involved in our medical programs.

Elizabeth Marshall
joined PIVOT in March as Madagascar-based Development Specialist volunteer. Elizabeth supports communications through reporting, photography, and videography, proposal development, and guest logistics. She served for over 25 years as an International Flight Attendant/On-board Purser with Pan American Airlines and United Airlines. She also brings experience in event planning, sales and hospitality, and as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity Global Village in several African countries. Elizabeth holds a BA in Global Communications from American University of Paris.

Kathryn Saloom
joined PIVOT in April as Corporate & Foundation Officer with responsibility for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of corporate and foundation gifts. She came to PIVOT from Partners In Health where she served as Foundation & Corporate Relations Associate. Kathryn’s experience includes research, operations and development for an international microfinance startup, a presidential archive research center, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Governor’s Office. She holds a BA in International Relations from Boston University, Boston, MA.

enews_nancyNancy Ferguson joined PIVOT in June as U.S.-based Finance & Administration Manager responsible for financial reporting, human resources, and general organizational administration. She previously served as Program Manager for the NCD Synergies Project at Partners In Health. Nancy has a rich background in public administration, international development, and communications. Prior to PIH, she consulted for the UNDP Pacific Centre in Suva, Fiji, on south-south cooperation between Small Island Developing States (SIDS) on climate change adaptation and disaster preparedness, and was a research fellow for the World Food Programme’s gender division. Nancy has worked in academic publishing, journalism, and developed online public relations strategies for an international nonprofit association. She holds an MPA from Cornell University and a BA from New York University.
